Printed by Dynafabs, painted by Some Miniatures
By Dynafabs
Introducing our collaboration with Some Miniatures: UK 3D-printed minis finished by a Hertfordshire commission painter.
If you collect Warhammer, Dungeons & Dragons heroes, board-game figures or display pieces, you already know the gap between a grey plastic miniature and one that looks finished on the table. Dynafabs prints the physical model; Some Miniatures paints it. We are collaborating so customers who want both can get a clearer path from file to painted miniature.
Who Some Miniatures are
Some Miniatures is a miniature commissions painting business based in Cuffley, Hertfordshire. On their site, painter Jonathan Kahn describes starting from a love of Dungeons & Dragons and tabletop painting, then turning years of practice into a commission service for other players and collectors.
Their About section notes experience across a wide range of ranges and brands — including Games Workshop, Wizkids, Reaper, Avatar of War, Scribor and others — and a focus on armies, heroes, villains and board-game figures that people want to field or display with pride. Contact details published on the site include email at Someminiatures@gmail.com, phone 07401116768, and the address 22a Station Road, Cuffley, Hertfordshire.
We are introducing the collaboration plainly: Dynafabs handles the print; Some Miniatures handles the paint. Partnership commercial terms are arranged between you and each service as needed — we are not inventing packages or prices here.
Painting tiers on their site
Some Miniatures publish five named quality levels on their home page. In their own wording:
- Bronze — also called tabletop quality; aimed at getting figures ready quickly for a game or expanding an army roster so basic infantry look good on the table.
- Silver — tabletop plus / high tabletop; more contrast, highlights and shadows so a miniature or company stands out a bit more.
- Gold — premium / high-end; suited to a hero, captain, regiment or special miniature that should stand out on the battlefield or table.
- Platinum — display pieces; for a centrepiece, special miniature or cabinet figure, including army leaders.
- Diamond — their top tier; they describe expecting 30–40 hours on a normal-sized 28–32 mm figure, and longer for larger models, with freehand and special basing among the options — inquire for details.
Exact pricing is not listed as a fixed menu on the pages we reviewed; they invite quotes through their Get a Quote contact flow. If you need a painted finish, ask them which tier fits your project after you know what you are printing.
How the Dynafabs + Some Miniatures collaboration fits
In practice the workflow is simple:
1. Choose or supply a model — upload an STL, 3MF, STEP or ZIP to Dynafabs for a print quote, or bring a model you already have. 2. Print with Dynafabs — we fabricate the miniature or figurine in the material and detail settings you pick on dynafabs.uk/quote. 3. Paint with Some Miniatures — once you have the physical piece (or arrange hand-off with them), commission painting at the tier that matches how you want it to look on the table or in a cabinet.
Dynafabs specialises in UK 3D printing for miniatures, figurines, multicolour AMS prints, prototypes and gifts from our London workshop. Some Miniatures specialises in commission painting. Together that covers "printed by Dynafabs, painted by Some Miniatures" without forcing a single bundled product you have not asked for.
What to prepare before you enquire
A clear brief helps both sides:
- Scale and game system (for example 28–32 mm fantasy, 40k infantry, a board-game set).
- Whether you need a single hero, a squad, or a centrepiece.
- Preferred colour scheme references (photos, official art, or your own notes).
- Whether the miniature should stay as a tabletop piece or become a display model.
For the print side, tell us if the model needs fine layer detail, multicolour filament, or a tougher material for handling. For the paint side, use Some Miniatures' quote form and say you are working from a Dynafabs print if that helps them plan surface prep.
